Quake II Mission Pack: Die Hard

Description: A single-player Quake2 Mission Pack with 6 levels and WOD-X v1.4 engine!

Commentary: My first impression when I played this mission pack, was how great is designed: the helicopter, the mansion and the unnecesary (but funny!!!) explosions when you shoot with any weapon. The only problem it has, is an error at the end of first level, specifically in the elevator, where you can't go into to continue to the second level. In any case, this SP pack is highly recommended to try.

Asteroid Base

Description: The humans have discovered that the Strogg have rebuilt significantly after their fatal defeat at their home planet. They've found something particularly disturbing. With horror they laid their eyes on their screens while the computers found numerous asteroid bases scattered around Stroggos. The biggest power surge came from one particular asteroid base with core function of research into developing a secret weapon that the humans hadn't been aware of until now. What's more, the Strogg have apparently elected a new Makron that could very well be on the very same asteroid base. That was what the specialists could decipher from the complex Strogg system. After looking further into this asteroid base network, the humans have also discovered that it's protected by a massive shield generator that could render a starship assault absolutely useless. So, the humans have apparently come up with an idea. They know that the Strogg want to have as much information about them as possible and lately they've been abducting humans in their bases. What the humans are going to do is send a lone marine with a well-concealed high-tech blaster as a bait to be caught by the Strogg. They've also found a way to short-circuit their security system, but they can't break into the shield generator or secret weapon database. That's what that grumpy lone marine has been sent to do. His mission is to find any trace of the secret weapon schematics and bring them back home for the scientists to decipher. A bold and dangerous move, but if it works, it would be instrumental to discovering what the Strogg are up to and what they've been constructing.

The Citadel

Description: Citadel doesn’t necessarily require Knightmare or other custom engines. All you need is Quake II patched to version 3.20. Instructions on how to install and play the game are in readme.htm.

All monsters have enhanced pathfinding and AI (thanks to the Rogue, Xatrix and Lazarus code packed in Knightmare’s DLL) Gunners, for example, use the correct elevation angle to fire grenades, while Tanks and Iron Maidens have the bad habit to fire rockets at your last known position. The Berserk’s spike attack has a slightly longer range, which is enough to catch unprepared those who have only played the original Quake II. The Hornet (flying boss) is now able to fire rockets in multiple directions.

Unlike the original Quake II, certain bosses do not explode when you kill them, and they may hinder your way with their extra-large bodies: in these cases you may have to gib them, possibly using your handy Chainfist to not waste precious ammo.

Ammo Packs don’t contain the new military supplies: though increasing your carrying capacity for all ammo types except Disruptors, they only contain classic Q2 munitions. However, they allow to stock many more Bullets (500 instead of 300).

Some of the new weapons have been fine-tuned: the Chainfist deals more damage than in Ground Zero, thus allowing for some effective melee combat, while the ETF Rifle fires at a faster rate and causes tangible splash damage. Also the Plasma Beam was slightly enhanced, making the consumption of cells a bit more rewarding. However, the biggest changes apply to the Disintegrator, which is now a truly powerful weapon but holds a very limited number of Disruptors.

Commentary: Unofficial and great add-on with very good designed levels wich you will enjoy for hours. The most important differences added, as you can see in description, are the enemie's AI and their weapons; and some recorded animations that you will see at the end of the game. Highly recommended.
